Mainframe Software Developer
Location: Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane

About The Role
We are seeking experienced Mainframe Software Developers to join a collaborative team focused on innovation, quality, and continuous improvement. This role is suited for professionals passionate about mainframe technologies and eager to contribute to high-impact systems across government and enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain COBOL-based applications in a z/OS mainframe environment
Write and optimise complex SQL queries for DB2 for z/OS
Integrate COBOL applications with DB2 databases and IBM MQ messaging systems
Manage user access and system security using RACF
Participate in code reviews, debugging, and performance tuning
Collaborate with testers, analysts, and DevOps engineers
Contribute to system documentation and knowledge sharing
Support continuous improvement and modernisation efforts using Micro Focus tools
Required Experience
COBOL (e.g., IBM COBOL for z/OS)
DB2 for z/OS and SQL query optimisation
DB2 utilities (LOAD, UNLOAD, REORG)
COBOL-DB2 integration
RACF for user profile management and access control
IBM MQ for message queue integration
z/OS environment tools: JCL, TSO/ISPF, VSAM file handling
Preferred Experience/Qualifications
Micro Focus Enterprise Developer / Analyzer
Experience in mainframe application modernisation
Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Certifications in mainframe technologies are advantageous
