COBOL / AS400 (IBM i) Development:

• Design, develop, and enhance COBOL applications on AS400 (IBM i) platform.

• Build new modules and functionalities based on business requirements.

• Refactor and optimize existing code for performance, scalability, and maintainability.

• Follow structured programming practices and modular design principles.

• Design and implement DB2 database structures, including physical and logical files.

• Write efficient embedded SQL within COBOL programs.

• Perform query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning.

• Ensure efficient data access and processing strategies.

Regular Tasks Required:

• Translate business requirements into high-quality technical solutions.

• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented COBOL code.

• Conduct unit testing and support integration testing activities.

• Participate in code reviews and enforce coding standards.

• Create and maintain technical documentation (design specs, program logic, workflows).

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (analysts, QA, architects) to deliver features.

• Continuously improve code quality and development practices.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 6–10 years of hands-on experience in COBOL development on AS400 (IBM i).

• Strong expertise in DB2 and embedded SQL.

• Experience with CL programming and job execution.

• Strong understanding of batch processing and file handling.

• Solid experience in application development, enhancement, and performance tuning.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Useful but non mandatory skills:

• Experience with IBM i modernization initiatives.

• Exposure to RPG / ILE concepts.

• Familiarity with API integration or enabling legacy systems for modern interfaces.

• Experience with version control and change management tools - Aldon.

Qualifications and education requirements:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)

• At least 6+ years of relevant experience as a Cobol developer on AS400 (IBM i)

• Excellent communication abilities to work with stakeholders and developers successfully

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

• Fluent in conversational and written English communication skills

Physical requirements:

• Normal, corrective vision range; ability to see color and to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols

• Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, bend and reach

• Ability to reach with hands and arms

• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30lbs
